Why Are Rule-Based Security Systems Inadequate?

Süleyman Petek, Cybersecurity Manager at Abdi İbrahim, spoke about the inadequacies of rule-based security systems. Petek said the following:

In previous approaches, we had started working with signature-based or rule-based systems. However, as the environment and the world have evolved, cybersecurity has also begun to operate in ways that are no longer dependent on signatures or rules. That’s why we’re now focusing on user behavior, anomaly detection, and distinguishing between real and fake—especially the fake videos, fake images, and fake attacks generated by artificial intelligence. When all these factors converge, I believe those who rely on rule-based and signature-based systems—and who are convinced they are secure—will suffer a major blow. In my view, those who adopt a more skeptical, even paranoid approach—proceeding with a “zero-trust” mindset and refusing to trust—will be in a much better position defensively.
