Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Furkan Kamanlı, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Research Center at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, spoke about data security and national technology development strategies in the quantum age. Kamanlı said the following:

The reason it comes back to national security is actually that quantum computing can expose places we consider very secure—or that we constantly protect together—and that there are ciphers that, through a number of operations we cannot even imagine, can be cracked in some way, even if not entirely accurately. From this perspective, in this era where artificial intelligence—specifically products operating at the frontiers—is on the rise, there will be a need for everything to become secure in and of itself. For example, our “drone” works wonderfully. A small “drone” that we say can fly within the city must not be susceptible to having its encryption cracked so easily that it could be brought down somewhere. There are actually many examples like this for us. That’s why, alongside our existing technologies, we need to develop quantum technologies to counter quantum threats. This is one of the most critical issues for us. That’s why, alongside every national technology, we must also develop a system to protect it using the latest chip technology. In fact, quantum technology inherently encompasses both the “white” and “black” sides, so to speak.
