What Is Cyber Resilience?

Umut Dinçkol, Information Security Director at Beymen Group, explained on Wise TV that cyber resilience is not merely a matter of technology investment, but a comprehensive approach that encompasses an organization’s entire culture and its operational processes.

“Cyber resilience refers to an organization’s ability to address issues arising from cyberattacks—swiftly and effectively—while minimizing the impact of any such incidents. There are various methods and approaches that organizations can adopt to strengthen their cyber resilience. Establishing robust policies, procedures, and strategies—and ensuring their ongoing functionality and continuity—is of paramount importance. It is essential for organizations to invest in these areas, provide the necessary support, engage dedicated committees, and hold regular meetings to ensure these processes remain active and effective. Training and awareness initiatives are also critical. Organizations should implement what we call ‘Security 101’—integrating training and awareness efforts from the very moment an employee joins the company. Through awareness bulletins, briefings, and announcements, these concepts should be woven into the daily lives of staff. Maintaining this awareness through concise, frequent messaging serves as a foundational step toward cyber resilience. Ultimately, cyber resilience should not be viewed solely as a technology investment; rather, integrating it into human resources and other organizational processes is one of the most vital factors in building a truly resilient institution.”

What Is Cyber Resilience?

Cyber resilience is an organization’s ability to prepare for cyberattacks and emerge from them with minimal damage. This concept extends beyond mere technological investments, representing an approach that encompasses all of an organization’s processes. Organizations must develop various strategies to enhance their cyber resilience.

Strengthening Policies and Procedures

The first step for organizations to improve their cyber resilience is to develop robust policies and procedures. These policies define the measures to be taken and the protocols to be followed in the face of cybersecurity threats. Organizations should regularly review these policies to ensure their ongoing effectiveness and continuity.

Strategic Investments and Support

Cyber resilience is not limited to technological investments alone. Organizations can also bolster their cyber resilience by investing in human resources and other operational processes. Such investments ensure that organizations are better prepared to withstand cyberattacks.

Training and Awareness Initiatives

Training and awareness are cornerstones of cyber resilience. Organizations should provide cybersecurity training to their employees to increase their level of awareness. These initiatives help employees become more conscious of and alert to cyber threats.
