Tarkan Ateşoğlu, Group Manager at Lila Kağıt Information Technologies, spoke about how to establish the right data strategy in the age of artificial intelligence. Ateşoğlu said:
Even today, is data in companies generally used more for decision support, or are we just producing reports out of habit? How data-literate are our teams? For what purpose should we be collecting that data? All of these are extremely important. If you can do this—even within your company today—you can achieve great results. We have the tools to do this. But with today’s advancing technology, data is actually the fuel for artificial intelligence—a topic everyone is talking about. So, if you have data, you can actually try to generate value from it. That’s why, first and foremost, you need to ensure the integrity and richness of that data. But you also need to ensure its reliability. Because if data isn’t reliable, no one will look at it. So there are two key things. First, you need to truly understand why you’re collecting that data; second, you need to know what outcome you want to derive from it. Once you combine these two, there’s nothing stopping you from determining how and on which platforms you want to deliver it. There are now plenty of technologies available for this. But it must be done with a clear strategy. Because if we fail to ensure that integrity, serious problems can arise regarding both the cost and the reliability of the process. That’s why it’s extremely important to expand data literacy, build teams that support data science, consider and establish a dedicated data unit alongside artificial intelligence, and develop strategies accordingly.
