What will be on CISOs’ agendas in 2025?

Yapı Kredi Technology Data and Endpoint Security Manager Serkan Kırkkulaç shares his expectations regarding institutions’ cyber security investments and budget management in 2025.

Indeed, when we consider the year 2025, I expect institutions to take different approaches when managing their budgets and costs in 2025, due to economic reasons such as cyclical developments and the expectation of recession, which is always said to be a difficult period. Because, as we see and read in different analysis reports, although the budgets in 2025 are increasing, we see that the rate of increase is decreasing compared to previous years. What does this mean? Currently, many investments have been made; Indeed, organizations manage hundreds, perhaps 50, 100, more than 100 levels of security solutions. Now, when we reach 2025, we need to look back at ourselves and evaluate how effectively we use the solutions. I think we need to be even more careful about these parts as the rate of increase in budgets and budget rates decreases in 2025. On the one hand, it is inevitable for us to make a 2025 plan by taking advantage of the blessings of artificial intelligence and making our necessary investments, but also taking into account the returns of our other investments, the legislation that our institutions are obliged to comply with, the size of our IT systems and our own trained cyber security resources. Maybe we can say this in this sense: 2025 may be a period when we need to make an internal evaluation in terms of returning to the essence, returning to the basics, and making more use of our security solutions. Frankly, I think that 2025 will come with certain uncertainties in terms of the security sector.

Challenges Organizations Will Face in 2025

Artificial Intelligence and Technological Investments

Artificial intelligence will remain a key area of investment for organizations in 2025. However, the returns on these investments must be carefully evaluated. While capitalizing on the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, organizations must also take their existing systems and resources into account.

Regulations and Compliance

In 2025, organizations will need to pay greater attention to regulatory and compliance requirements. This may both increase costs and complicate operational processes; however, overcoming these challenges is possible with the right strategies.

Cybersecurity and Resource Management

Cybersecurity will remain a top priority for organizations in 2025. To meet their cybersecurity needs, organizations must effectively utilize their skilled workforce and make the necessary investments in this area.

Refocusing and Internal Assessment

The year 2025 offers organizations an opportunity to refocus and conduct internal assessments. Maximizing the utilization of security solutions and ensuring the efficient use of existing resources will be key strategies for organizations during this period.

General Assessment
