How are financial institutions preparing for the transformation brought about by GenAI?

Bilge Köroğlu, R&D Director at Yapı Kredi Teknoloji, shared her insights on how financial institutions are preparing for a transformation driven by Generative AI (GenAI):

“In the near future, I believe the most significant initial impact will be seen in what we call ‘hyper-personalized’ financial applications. These will enable the development of tools that leverage a customer’s own financial activity to provide highly tailored recommendations—such as personalized investment products, shopping suggestions, or assistance with bill payments—ultimately simplifying the lives of bank customers. If we look at the academic literature on Generative AI, there has been a surge in research specifically focused on personalized recommendation systems over the past year. In academia, a publication today typically signals that the technology will reach end-users within about five years. Therefore, I believe we will soon see hyper-personalized recommendation systems—powered by Generative AI—made available to financial professionals and, by extension, to our external customers. Furthermore, the initial application of artificial intelligence in the banking and financial sector was in risk management—specifically, monitoring customer debt levels and taking proactive measures to prevent payment delays. While risk management served as the primary early use case for AI, we are now seeing new developments; for instance, experimental work has been successfully completed on running AI algorithms on quantum computers—a field that is gaining momentum as such hardware becomes more accessible.” Therefore, I believe that in another five years, risk management—currently handled by classical artificial intelligence—will shift to quantum-powered computers, which offer greater speed and a lower error rate. As a result, risk management will be conducted in a way that requires a much smaller risk appetite, ensuring that financial institutions are not exposed to significant harm.

Hyper-Personalized Financial Applications: Opening the Door to the Future

The rapid advancement of technology today is driving a transformation in financial services. Innovative technologies—most notably artificial intelligence and quantum computing—have the potential to revolutionize the financial sector. In this context, hyper-personalized financial applications aim to simplify users’ lives by analyzing their financial activities and providing tailored investment suggestions, shopping recommendations, and bill-payment solutions. While these applications help users make more informed financial decisions, they also create new opportunities for banks and financial institutions.

Artificial Intelligence and Personalized Recommendation Systems

Artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role in the development of personalized recommendation systems within the financial sector. Academic research conducted in recent years highlights the significant potential of these systems. By analyzing users’ financial histories, they can offer the most suitable investment and spending recommendations, enabling users to reach their financial goals more quickly and effectively.

Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing in Risk Management

Artificial intelligence is also revolutionizing risk management processes for banks and financial institutions. By monitoring customers’ debt status and helping to prevent payment delays, AI provides more efficient solutions for risk management. Furthermore, as quantum computing becomes more widespread, it is expected that these processes will accelerate even further, while the margin for error is minimized. Quantum computers are set to replace artificial intelligence in risk management, enabling financial institutions to achieve higher returns with lower risk.

The Future of Hyper-Personalized Applications

Hyper-personalized financial applications will assist users in managing their financial lives more consciously and effectively. While these applications make it easier for users to reach their financial goals, they will also create new revenue streams for banks and financial institutions. The integration of artificial intelligence and quantum computing will allow these applications to deliver faster and more accurate results.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing

Artificial intelligence and quantum computing have the potential to revolutionize the financial sector. These technologies enable the delivery of financial services that are faster, more accurate, and highly personalized. Through these technologies, users can make more informed financial decisions, while financial institutions can generate greater returns with reduced risk.

Conclusion: Preparing for the Future

Hyper-personalized financial applications, powered by the integration of artificial intelligence and quantum computing, hold the potential to transform the financial industry. These technologies not only empower users to manage their financial lives with greater awareness and effectiveness but also present new opportunities for financial institutions. In the future, these applications are expected to become more widespread, further facilitating the achievement of users’ financial goals. The integration of artificial intelligence and quantum computing will ensure that financial services are provided with greater speed, precision, and personalization.
