How Do We Secure Today’s Data Against Tomorrow’s Technologies?

Çağda Çelikbilek, IBM Turkey’s Software Country Leader, discussed how they safeguard today’s data against the technologies of tomorrow. Çelikbilek stated:

“Should we become ‘quantum-ready’? Yes, we should. When should we do this? Actually, we need to do it today. It is a process. Quantum systems are already beginning to come into use worldwide. As IBM, we have already established quantum data centers in four different locations around the globe. While IBM focuses on the positive aspects of this technology for the business world, we also address the question you just raised: ‘Are we quantum-safe?’ As quantum technology enters our lives, we are moving toward a scenario where—just as good things emerge—so do potential threats. We need to start anticipating the malicious hacking processes that could arise with the deployment of quantum systems right now. What are hackers doing at the moment? They are stealing our passwords and stockpiling them, waiting for the moment they gain access to quantum systems themselves. Therefore, we must initiate this process and begin our preparations today. At IBM, alongside assisting organizations with quantum systems, we are also working on quantum security. Through our ‘quantum-safe’ solution, we conduct assessments to identify which systems within an organization are vulnerable to quantum risks. We then take the findings from these assessments—and the corresponding solutions—to ensure organizations are protected against quantum threats. This is not just rhetoric; we have already launched these projects in Türkiye. In fact, we have started this initiative with several financial institutions. To return to your question about when we need to act: we must act today, because, at the very least, this is a process that will take a year.” I believe it is critical that we prepare ourselves now for the period ahead. Frankly, it would be incorrect to assume that all of an organization’s systems are vulnerable to quantum risks. In fact, we determine—together with organizations through our IBM consulting projects—which systems are exposed to the quantum threat and which are not. Consequently, we focus solely on the solutions that need to be made “quantum-safe” in this regard.

Preparing for Quantum Technologies: Why We Should Start Today

Quantum technologies are emerging as an innovative field with the potential to revolutionize the world of computing. Pioneering companies like IBM are making significant strides in this area by making quantum systems available globally. However, the security risks accompanying quantum technologies cannot be overlooked, any more than the opportunities they offer. The capacity of quantum computers to crack existing encryption methods signals the beginning of a new era in cybersecurity. Therefore, it is crucial for organizations to prepare for quantum technologies and take steps toward quantum security. Initiating this preparation process today means establishing the most effective defense mechanism against the threats we may face in the future.

The Rise of Quantum Technologies

Quantum technologies stand out due to their potential to enhance computing capacity and speed. Technology giants like IBM are making substantial investments in this field and establishing quantum data centers. These centers aim to integrate the power of quantum computers into the business world.

Quantum Security: A New Era

The advancement of quantum computers points to a future where current encryption methods may prove inadequate. This situation necessitates a re-evaluation of cybersecurity strategies. “Quantum safety” is becoming one of the top priorities for organizations in this new era.

IBM’s Quantum Security Solutions

IBM supports organizations by conducting pioneering work in the field of quantum security. Through its “quantum-safe” solutions, IBM identifies which of an organization’s systems are vulnerable to quantum risks and provides protection against them. This process helps organizations become more resilient against future threats. Preparing for Quantum Risks

Being prepared for the risks posed by quantum technologies is of critical importance for organizations. Through its consulting projects, IBM identifies which of an organization’s systems are vulnerable to quantum risks and provides solutions to secure them.

Quantum Projects in Türkiye

IBM has also initiated quantum projects in Türkiye. Collaborations, particularly with financial institutions, are driving significant progress toward achieving “quantum safety.” These projects play a vital role in Türkiye’s process of adapting to quantum technologies.

The Importance of Acting Today

Preparing for quantum technologies can be a time-consuming process. Therefore, taking action today is key to being ready for future threats. By taking steps toward “quantum safety,” organizations can gain a competitive advantage in this new era.

Quantum technologies have the potential to revolutionize the computing world. However, the security risks associated with these technologies cannot be ignored. Leading companies like IBM help organizations prepare for this new era by offering quantum security solutions. Initiating the preparation process for quantum technologies today means establishing the most effective defense mechanism against future threats. By taking steps toward “quantum safety,” organizations can gain a competitive advantage in this new era.
