Özben Miçooğulları, Senior Manager of Enterprise Sales for Cloudflare in Turkey and Qatar, discussed the feasibility of stopping cloud-based attacks using on-premises solutions. Miçooğulları stated:
“You cannot counter ‘cloud-scale’ attacks with ‘on-prem’ appliances—just as you wouldn’t go into modern aerial warfare armed with a sword. Similarly, you cannot respond to massive cloud-based attacks using on-premises hardware. For instance, regarding DDoS, we provide a network capacity of 500 terabits per second, allowing us to block DDoS attacks without our customers even realizing it. Our closest competitor manages only 30 terabits per second and struggles to block ‘hyper-volumetric’ attacks. Until now, the lack of a local cloud provider offering these services in Türkiye created the illusion that the problem could be solved with on-premises appliances. However, thanks to Cloudflare’s investments in Türkiye, we are now offering our customers a cloud-native solution, effectively helping them initiate this transformation.”
