Trends affecting cybersecurity and the human factor

The agenda in the world of technology is constantly shifting. In an interview with Wise TV, Serkan Kırkkulaç, Manager of Data and Endpoint Security at Yapı Kredi Technology, discusses the rise of technologies such as Generative AI, the Metaverse, and Blockchain.

“The agenda changes very frequently; currently, we are focusing heavily on—and will continue to discuss—topics like Generative AI. Recent research reveals a significant surge in articles and academic studies specifically concerning Generative AI—a pattern often observed before a subject becomes a ‘hype.’ We see a similar trend regarding the Metaverse and blockchain. As an organization, we are actively engaged in this space, conducting pioneering research and launching various initiatives. While these topics have rapidly climbed to the top of our agenda this year, we must also return to the fundamentals of cybersecurity. The human factor is truly critical—encompassing both the need for a skilled workforce and the reality that humans often represent the ‘weakest link.’ Since all these aspects ultimately converge on the human element, it is essential that we give this matter deeper consideration.”

The Evolving Agenda: Generative AI

Today, the agenda is shifting rapidly, a transformation most evident within the technology sector. Recently, Generative AI has become a subject of intense discussion across both academic circles and technology firms. The popularity of these topics is viewed as a harbinger of future technological advancements. The influence of these technologies is growing, particularly within fields like the Metaverse and blockchain. Organizations are launching various research projects and initiatives to adapt to these emerging technologies. However, during this rapid process of change, fundamental issues such as cybersecurity and the human factor must not be overlooked.

The Metaverse and Blockchain: Gateways to New Worlds

The Metaverse can be defined as a new digital world created through the combination of virtual and augmented reality technologies. This world enables users to interact within a virtual environment. Blockchain technology, meanwhile, is used to ensure the security and transparency of this virtual realm. When combined with generative artificial intelligence, both technologies appear set to form the foundation for future digital experiences.

The Human Factor: The Weakest Link in Technology

The human factor is generally considered the weakest link in technological systems. Well-trained and informed users can be more resilient against cybersecurity threats. For this reason, technology companies and educational institutions organize various training programs and awareness campaigns to strengthen the human element.
