In an enjoyable conversation moderated by BThaber President Murat Göçe, and featuring Dell Technologies CTO Feyza Başaran and vMind Information Technologies General Manager Volkan Duman, the “AI-Ready” journey of organizations was discussed.
Murat Göçe: Hello. Today our topic is artificial intelligence. There’s a concept called AI-Ready Infrastructure, which I’ve recently started researching. It’s a very impressive term; I really like it. Today I have two very valuable guests. My first guest is Feyza Başaran, CTO of Dell, and my second guest is Volkan Duman, General Manager of vMind. We’re starting our conversation with pleasure. Mr. Duman, everyone has some great projects. While some say that artificial intelligence isn’t quite mature yet, the projects being done are magnificent. There’s some really great work being done. That’s what I see. What do you see?
Volkan Duman: Thank you. So, artificial intelligence will actually be everywhere in our lives from now on, both for efficiency and competitiveness. We’ve already started to focus on how to integrate it into our processes as quickly as possible, and we see this especially in manufacturing, and particularly in critical areas like insurance where rapid reactions and intelligent thinking are necessary. For example, if you compare a competitor who hasn’t used this – for instance, an insurance company – to a result they’ve seen or experienced in the previous 15 or 20 days, and AI can do it in seconds, then it will be very difficult for that competitor to survive.
Murat Göçe: Ms. Feyza, okay, that’s good. We said it wouldn’t work without passing, everyone had to pass. But I see in your conversations that some of our companies can’t pass. There are various reasons. Why can’t they pass?
Feyza Başaran: The most common cause of disruptions in operational systems we see is when organizations fail to clearly define their direction and haven’t prepared adequately. First of all, we need to set a clear business objective. That’s the first step.
Murat Göçe: I’ll stop here. Apparently, some bosses come to their IT teams and say, “Let’s do something with artificial intelligence,” right?
Feyza Başaran: Yes.
Murat Göçe: That’s not how things work.
Feyza Başaran: That’s not how it works. We need to set a clear business goal and start with the one that will yield the quickest results. We need to examine our data to achieve this goal, because we’re seeing problematic areas here. The data needs to be usable for AI. It needs to be clean data. Is its structure distributed? Centralized? Or is it compliant with GDPR regulations in certain areas, like finance or healthcare institutions? Because you start a project and reach a point where your data isn’t actually compliant with GDPR security, and the project stops. This will cause a disruption. Besides that, your infrastructure is crucial. It’s important that all components of the infrastructure are ready for AI. And security, of course, is paramount. Within this overall framework, the establishment of secure systems alongside AI-generating artificial intelligence, without any vulnerabilities, is crucial for the healthy continuation of projects.
Murat Göçe: AI-Ready – as I said earlier – is a new concept for me as well. What should we understand from it? What is it? Could you explain it to us a little?
Volkan Duman: Ultimately, for data to be considered as whole, accurate, and for its privacy to be protected, it must comply with the rules and regulations you mentioned earlier. Each of these factors, when developing AI projects, can potentially expose our confidential, private information – information that we keep hidden from everyone, even in areas open to competition. Therefore, simply creating or using something doesn’t automatically mean it’s secure or compliant with regulations. vMind’s perspective, particularly within the context of a sovereign cloud structure – being a domestic manufacturer, developing technology in the Yıldız Technical University Technopark in Türkiye, and bringing together all these technological elements with its own software to operate in accordance with those rules and regulations – is what matters to us. This might mean something different to another company in another world. If global competition is the issue, and we need a sustainable, continuous infrastructure, then what vMind is doing is providing all of this securely to its customers with its AI-Ready infrastructure.
Murat Göçe: For AI to work, you need accurate data.
Volkan Duman: Exactly.
Murat Göçe: To have accurate and secure data, a secure infrastructure is necessary. We can call this an AI-Ready Infrastructure.
Feyza Başaran: From our perspective, what we call an AI-Ready Infrastructure is “Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA.” What does this bring? It brings the following: First, establishing a ready-made structure with a balanced GPU-CPU ratio at the server level. Data is crucial for success in AI. You need to work with the right data, with its regulations and the issues we discussed earlier, and your infrastructure needs to be properly structured – your network is the logistical support I mentioned earlier. Because GPUs don’t allow for latency and demand significant performance. You need to have your network infrastructure built accordingly.
Murat Göçe: It needs to be fast and secure.
Feyza Başaran: You need to set it up quickly and securely. The server, networks, network structure, data storage – all of these need to be integrated and working correctly. That’s what we call “Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA.” It eliminates the risk-free process for our customers of whether different layers will work together in their environment, whether they will be compatible or not. It allows for quick market entry by providing integrated reference architectures that work together seamlessly. Ultimately, our customers can look at these reference architectures according to their needs and implement their AI projects quickly and without problems.
Murat Göçe: Great. You’re saying, “We, as Dell, also provide this.” So, as I understand it, you can set up the appropriate infrastructure in a suitable data center together with Mr. Volkan.
Feyza Başaran: Of course. At Dell Technologies, we work with many different customers globally. We have many different example scenarios. But the local touch is very critical here. Because local systems must also address the requirements of that market. That’s why vMind’s collaboration and competence here are very important to us. He knows the system, understands our customers’ needs and knows the regulations. Accordingly, I think it is an important step to start this journey with a good business partner who has the ability to analyze whether the data will be in the cloud, hybrid or local and to offer all kinds of solutions.
Murat Göçe: I thank my guests. My conclusion is this: Before moving on to an AI application, we need to sit down and plan well. What benefits will it bring us? Even better, instead of just saying “let’s do an AI project,” we need to start by considering how we can solve a need before moving to AI. Then, the data needs to be corrected. Without proper data, AI projects have no chance of success. The data needs to be organized. Then, we need to move this project to a good infrastructure. A secure infrastructure that complies with certain regulations. After that, we need to choose a good hardware brand like Dell, or a good “partner” like vMind, so that AI projects can succeed. Thank you for watching.
