Are Artificial Intelligence and Big Data a Sectoral Necessity in the Fintech Ecosystem?

Barış Kırgıç Çakıroğlu, CTO of Rubikpara, discussed the necessity of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data within the fintech ecosystem. Çakıroğlu stated:

“Artificial intelligence has actually been a part of our lives for quite some time. As a country, Turkey has not struggled to keep pace; we see many companies adapting very quickly. At Rubikpara, we already employ AI models and algorithms for fraud detection, and we are now looking to diversify these applications. For instance, we have conducted several Proof of Concepts (POCs)—such as implementing AI-driven code reviews—to minimize errors that might otherwise go unnoticed by human developers. We also aim to gain efficiencies by accelerating these processes and reducing the time spent on them. Furthermore, we are developing—and currently running POCs for—solutions that allow our end-users to make payments or check the status of their transactions easily via a chatbot. In our POC process, we either collaborate with external partners or utilize pre-trained, open-source models, upon which we build our own custom code to compare the results. We then move forward with the approach that yields the best outcome; this could involve a hybrid structure or a partnership with firms that provide specialized AI models. While Rubikpara is committed to adapting rapidly to this transformation, it is crucial to analyze AI-driven projects with great precision. We must ensure that these solutions do not become obsolete or redundant over time, but rather continue to provide long-term value—both to our customers and to our own operations.” In projects utilizing “free” models, it often happens that, after some time, the lack of model updates leads to deficiencies in the results, ultimately causing the project to fail. At Rubikpara, we are not rushing; rather, we prefer to make our decisions on a very solid foundation. Our “POC” (Proof of Concept) initiatives are proceeding with this approach in mind.
