In this exclusive interview with Wise TV, Hakan Türköner, Director of Information Security and Governance at Boyner, provides detailed insights into a next-generation approach to cybersecurity and an innovative solution they have developed to counter unknown threats.
To enhance cyber resilience, we must be prepared for unknown threats. In this landscape, we may face issues stemming not from areas where we have invested the most, but from points we overlooked or failed to consider. To address this, we began developing an in-house solution last year. This product functions by intercepting—or “trapping”—incoming cyberattacks before they reach our internal network, allowing us to understand, learn from, and neutralize them. How does it achieve this? It utilizes a built-in deception module to mimic our own website, analyzing the data from attackers’ attempts and correlating it through intelligent links within our core systems to activate protective measures. Essentially, it acts exactly like our actual website; that is its standout feature. The key issue here is that while we often believe systems like web application firewalls offer sufficient protection, attackers remain a step ahead, knowing how to bypass these tools and developing code specifically for that purpose. Our goal is to detect this code without the attackers realizing it and to thwart their bypass methodologies.
Cyber Resilience and Unknown Threats
Cybersecurity is of vital importance for businesses and individuals in the digital age. However, while the focus is often on known threats, unknown threats can easily be overlooked. These threats frequently originate from unexpected sources and can cause serious damage. Therefore, being prepared for unknown threats is essential to enhancing cyber resilience.
Limitations of Traditional Security Approaches
Although traditional security systems are generally effective against known threats, attackers are constantly developing new methods. While systems such as web application firewalls provide a certain level of protection, attackers often find ways to bypass them. Consequently, it is crucial to develop more proactive and innovative approaches.
The Role of Deception Technology
Deception technology introduces a new dimension to cybersecurity. This technology aims to reveal attackers’ methods and intentions by misleading them. Deception modules attract attackers’ attention by creating decoy targets, thereby protecting actual systems. This approach offers the opportunity to analyze attackers’ movements and take preemptive measures.
Next-Generation Security Products
Next-generation security products provide more effective protection against unknown threats. By detecting attacks before they occur, these products establish a proactive defense mechanism. They trap attacks before they reach your internal network, allowing the system to learn the attackers’ methods and use that information to strengthen your infrastructure. Attacker Bypass Methods
Attackers constantly develop new bypass methods to circumvent security systems. These methods typically aim to infiltrate systems by exploiting vulnerabilities. However, it is possible to prevent such attacks by detecting the code used by attackers and developing countermeasures against it.
Proactive Security Strategies
Proactive security strategies are among the most effective ways to enhance cyber resilience. By detecting attacks in advance and analyzing attacker methods, these strategies keep your systems consistently up-to-date and secure, ensuring you are better prepared for unknown threats.
The Future of Cyber Resilience
Cyber resilience is an ever-evolving field that will become increasingly important in the future. Being prepared for unknown threats enables businesses and individuals to remain secure in the digital world. Therefore, developing innovative security solutions and implementing proactive strategies is critical for the future of cybersecurity.
In conclusion, preparedness against unknown threats is essential for enhancing cyber resilience. Moving beyond traditional security approaches to adopt innovative solutions—such as deception technology and proactive security strategies—is the key to staying safe in the digital world. This allows you to stay one step ahead of attackers and protect your systems more effectively.
