Enterprise AI Governance and Shadow AI Risks

Cihan Meriç Kaymaz, Co-Founder and CEO of Arketic AI, spoke about corporate AI governance and the risks of “shadow AI.” Kaymaz said the following:

When it comes to AI projects—and if we’re to focus on the positives rather than the negatives—one of the core principles we’ve embedded in our approach is this: As of 2022, 1.3 billion people have begun using AI at an unprecedented pace as this AI revolution has entered our lives. Consequently, as organizations undergo their AI transitions, a very significant number of internal users have started using AI without the approval of their organizations’ “regulations” or their IT departments—a phenomenon we refer to as “Shadow AI.” At the same time, driven by boards of directors’ enthusiasm for “AI” projects, rapid initiatives were launched based on these concepts even before regulations, laws, and rules had been clearly defined—and, naturally, some of these projects stalled halfway through this transition. In this short time, processes related to “AI” projects—including their “governance” aspects and their “legacy” layers—are maturing. Companies developing “AI” projects are, of course, also enhancing their measures and infrastructure related to these layers. At Arketic AI, we have prepared our security layers—from the creation of an end-to-end model that operates in a closed loop at the infrastructure level to encryption and security in the middle layer—and have launched our initiative into the market as an “AI” orchestration platform. We, too, have conducted approximately 10 months of R&D during this short period.
