Fırat Akın, General Manager of Information Technologies at Çokyaşar Holding, spoke about career planning in computer engineering. Akın said the following:
“If I were to specialize in a vertical field, and if I wanted to spend my first 5 years in a technical field, I would definitely choose ‘data,’ advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence. Why? Because all the concepts we call coding, development, or configuration are being developed by ‘enterprise’ practitioners within a year or a year and a half – and this is, of course, information we have obtained from globally researched articles – from a ‘prompt’-based structure to an ‘audio prompt,’ and then to an architecture that can be transformed into an output with very small expressions. In short, will an IT developer do configuration in the future? Yes, but perhaps only 1% of what they do now. But after a certain period, it may disappear altogether. Will there be ‘development’? Yes, but you won’t get the same satisfaction you get now. But the satisfaction you will get from data will be completely different.” I believe that data governance, building a data library, and manipulating this data to create a foundation for future AI is fundamental, and there are many ways to gather this data from various sources. If you work in industry, you’ll get forecasts from the field; if you work in an e-commerce company, from social media or the marketing technologies of the e-commerce site; if you’re an FMCG company, you’ll use best practices or anonymous data from research companies and your own sales to make forecasts. And these forecasts will be implemented using cloud technologies. What’s very prominent at this summit, for example, is that I won’t have to develop the underlying technology for these forecasts. I’ll put that data on the cloud platform. I’ll utilize the services on the cloud platform and, using its forecasting services, I’ll become a strategic professional capable of advancing to advanced management roles. If I were graduating as a computer engineer today, I would be a candidate for top roles in companies, focusing on data, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and strategy. I wish you all success in advance, friends.
