About Çelik Motor
Tolga Demirbilek: Çelik Motor, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2020, has been working to contribute to the development of the automotive sector since its establishment. Under the Çelik Motor umbrella, we have brands such as the Turkish distributorship of the South Korean automotive giant Kia, Garenta, Türkiye’s 100% domestically owned car rental company, and ikinciyeni.com, Türkiye’s first online vehicle auction platform. With a digital brand strategy, we prioritize innovation and closely follow trends, launching Mobile Garenta in 2018, the first company in Türkiye to offer support rentals with free-roaming vehicles.
Why did you choose IBM Cloud services?
Tolga Demirbilek: When we look at Google usage data, we see periodic fluctuations in customer demand. Therefore, we designed our technology infrastructure to be flexible and scalable. This allows us to maintain the same level of service quality regardless of customer demand and optimize resource utilization. When evaluating IBM Cloud services, instead of focusing on cost savings, we considered the gains we would achieve through speed, quality, flexibility, and innovation. Another important point in choosing IBM was sustainable operations and service management. When you add all these gains together, we aim to create a difference in service and service management and give our brands a competitive advantage.
The Cloud Journey with IBM
Yakup Kadri Ünal: I think our Cloud journey with IBM is more of a partnership, a business collaboration, a different climate. Therefore, I evaluate this journey not from a technological point of view, but in terms of togetherness, mutual understanding, and the resulting efficiency. I think this is the biggest positive impact.
Gains
Tolga Demirbilek: In our project, where we used the agile methodology, we carried out very productive work as a single team, from consulting to architectural design, from cybersecurity to analysis studies. Even just this transfer of experience and its adaptation to Çelik Motor is one of the biggest gains of the project. The fact that the application design is “cloud native” and designed to support a “multi-cloud” structure also shortened our IBM selection process by 50%. From a “time to market” perspective, you can see this as a significant achievement. In the later stages of the project, where we used agile methodology, we also had the opportunity to evaluate disasters at the micro level. Looking at the results we obtained, both the technology unit and the business units saw that we achieved much deeper insights than when we first started.
